WOMEN'S NATIONAL RESERVE

ACTIVITIES OF THE PAST YEAR, The annua) meeting of the Auckland branch of the Women's National Reserve was held at the rooms in the Technical College Buildings, Rutland Street, last night. The president, Miss- E. Melville, presided over a largo attendance. The annual report stated ttliat little opportunity had so far been given to carry out the reserve's primary object of training women for roloasing mm for activo' service, but it was recognised that the call must come, and all the lumbers had been kept united and active by undertaking various branches of patriotic work, and efforts had been made to assist the National Efficiency Board in every way. The Sewing Guild had offered to bow for necessitous casos among children in the backblocks, and the Education Board had undertaken to report deserving cases. The rifle club was flourishing, and the nursing divisrm of tie Medical Corps had done good work. It was regretted the signalling section had to disband owing to the successive instructors proceeding to the front. The care of soldiers' graves had been put into the hands of the corps by the Government, and good work had been done under tho supervision of Miss E. M, Stalham. The balance-sheet showed the financial condition of the reserve to be good. There were no liabilities. The following officers were elected:— Hon. president the Mayoress Mrs. J. H. Qunson; president, Mrs. D. W. McLean j vice-presidents, Mesdames A. Myers, C J. Pratt, and C.Whitney, and Miss Melville: committee, Mesdames R. L. Baume, A. R. Stewart, Boswell, E. Holland, S. McGill, and E. McKenzie, Misses P. H. Dawson, E. M. Btatham, A. Boston, E. M. Black, and L. J. Austin, and Nurso H. Scott; secretary, Mrs. J. A. Middlcbrook. It was decided to recommend that a Dominion conference be held at an early date, and that a Dominion executive be set up in order to secure uniformity of action and to extend the work of the r». serve.
