MOTOR CYCLING CARNIVAL

SPORTS AT CHRISTCHUHCH. [DT TELEGRAPH.— ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHDRCH, Saturday. A motor carnival was held to-day in perfect weather. The proceeds were in aid of the Red Cross Fund. There was a huge crowd present during tho afternoon, when an exhibition of flying was given by the instructor at tho Canterbury Aviation School. Results: — Light-weight Handicap. 8 miles: A. Woodman (Christchurch), 1: J. A. Kartoj (Timaru), ss, 2; J. Jones (Palmerston North), 46s 3. Won comfortably. Time, 7m 57 3-sa. Heavy-weight Handicap, 10 miles: H. R. Crawley (Carterton), 20s. 1; L. Mengham (Shannon). 20s, 2. The race was marred by an accident, and a couple of mishaps. Crawley won in excellent time. Only one other man finished. Time, 9m 17 4-ss. South Island Light-weight Championship. 8 miles: F. Haworth (Christchurch), 1; J. Dawbcr (Talmerston North), 2; P. A. Foden (Timaru), 3. L. Bird also started. Won by 150 yds. Time, 9m 48 3-ss. South Island Middle-weight Championship, 10 miles: a. Woodman (Christchurch), 1; 3. A. Kirton (Timaru), 2; K. J. Jones, 3. A Boag f.nd J. Dawber also started. Won by 10yds. Time, 10m 6 3-53. Australian Heavy-weight Championship 15 miles: P. Coleman (Palmorston Xorthi. 1; H. K. Crawley, 2; L. Menghani, 3. These I™™ only starters. Won easily. Time, 13m 60s, an Australasian record.
