[MINISTER'S REPLY TO PROTEST. I The Auckland ; Railways f League rei cently forwarded protests to ; the Prime : Minister, the Ministers, for Public : Works ! and Railways, and various M.P.'s, against what it considered ", to ', be the inadequate vote placed on this year's Estimates for the Waihi-Tauranga section of: the East Coast Railway.'The ■ Prime Minister and the Minister for Railways replied stating ; that they had referred the protest. to the I Minister for Public Works. . The lattor's reply was as follows:—" You have overlooked the fact that there are only five months of the financial year { left, which makes the present vote equal to last year's, as only £900 have been expended so far. Besides, if labour is availablo I can exceed this vote if necessary." ,'
