SPEEDY PEACE URGED.
GERMAN SOCIALIST VIEW. END OF MAILED-FIST POLICY. (Received 5.5 p.p.) Router. AMSTERDAM. Oct. 16. Herr Ebert, President of the Socialist Party in the Reichstag, presiding at a Socialist meeting at Wurzburg, in Bavaria, said that a speedy conclusion of peace was a vital necessity to the workmen of all countries. The policy of the mailed fist, after this war's frightful sorrows, must disappear. If a ballot were takon, nine-tenths of the people would approve of peace. He declared that the regime of the Chancellor, Dr. Michaelis, spelt the collapse of the present system of government, in Germany. Another report states that Herr Ebert seid the Socialists were in favour of Abac; and Lorraine having complete Republic; autonomy, and a Constitution on an equality with other federal States. Herr Schcidcmann, leader of tho Majority Socialists, speaking at tho Wurzburg Conference, declared that the enemy's demands were steadily growing more insane. "We will not relinquish a single foot of German territory," he said. " Wo will only givo up what belongs to others. Our peace terms are, Germany's territorial inviolability, the freedom of the seas, and economic freedom."
