TRAM MOTORMAN'S DEATH.
FALLS DEAD IN CAR. A tramway raotorman, Mr. John Bums i Brodie, died suddenly of heart failure m 9.30 a.m. yesterday, while tunning a car into the Poifsonby barn. Ha had just cnt off the power, the car beiic? almost at a standstill, when he was seen to fall in the ! motonnan'B compartment. Dr. W. S. Brockway was immediately called in, but ' life was then extinct. It is (aid that Mr. Brrfdie, who had just returned from a two hours' run on the Ponsonby-City line, had been in good spirits.. He had been under medical treatment; at intervals during the last, four years, and on Friday
iast visited Dr. H. Mcir, who has issued a certificate that death was due to heart failure. Mr, Brodie, who was 40 years of. ago, lived with his family in Prospect , Square. Ponsonby. Before coming to New Zealand he served in the Argvlf and Sutherland Regiment. As a member of the famous Highland Brigade, .he fought in the South African War. taking part in the engagements at Modder River, Magersfontein, and Paardeb'nrg.
