"OUR DAY" APPEAL.

ATTRACTIONS FOR FRIDAY, SOME NOVEL FEATURES. The various clubs and societies taking part in tho 4' Our Day" appeal on Friday are now working hard to complete final details of their displays. The limpiro appeal on behalf of tho Red Cross has already met with most generous support, so far as individual effort is concerned, for men and women are co-operating most loyally to promote a gala day that will bring in a sum worthy of this groat; cause. Among the many bodies of worken who will take the.ir place in Queen Street on Friday may be mentioned tho Loyal Girls' Club, which will be stationed outside Smith and Caughey'e. This club is composed entirely of business girls, who have pledged themselves to contribute £10 a month to the Tied Cross Fund for the duration of the war. The special display at their stall will consist of lingerie and children's clothing, all made by members in their spare time. The display, which will be of particular interest to ladies, will also include a number of articles to be disposed of by guessing competition. The Mercy Guild has arranged a stall to be located at tho Thames Hotel corner, and among other articles to be disposed of is a rosary, to which an interesting history attaches. This rosary was presented to the guild by Miss bray, who, for over a year, was driving first an ammunition waggon, and then an ambulance at the front. Tho rosary was given to Miss Gray by a French soldier, who picked it up on the battlefield oi Vcrmille. This uuique relic will be disposed of by guessing competition. A chocolate model of a Swiss chalet outside the Union Bank will be another notable attraction in Queen Street. The chalet will be under the. control of the Misses Marriner a-d 10 lady helpers, dressed in the Swiss national costume. The Victoria Leagno, which will con duct a market stall in Shortland Street. has set as its aim the raising of the sum of £500, and the committee has issued an appeal to members to do their utmost to help in the realisation of this aim. Donations of money, produce, sweets, cakes, flowers, and plain and fancy work are solicited. At the Witches' Cavern, in addition to the occult attractions, there will bo a con tinuous programme of musical acd dramatic items by the best professional ana amateur talent. Flags and exemption badges are to be a special feature of "Our Day," and the Red Cross Committee anticipates that the sale of these will bring material help to swell the funds to the amount required.' The badges, which are of very pretty design, will be a facsimile of some of tho I U*A„a» „„1J .'- T?_.„l J r._ iL.

badges sold in England for the same cause.' 11l addition to the Queen Street display, stalls will be erected in other busy parts of the city, including a variety stall at the Grafton Bridge, under the control! of the Auckland Hospital nurses, and a fish stall at the corner of Pitt Street, run by the Y.W.O.A. The Mayoress of Newmarket has also arranged two stalls in that suburb. The country branches of the Red Cross are supporting most loyally the efforts of the Auckland Society, and contributions of produce of all kinds have been promised for " Our Day."
