Prior to his enlistment, he was a member of the Auckland Garrison Artillery. He left Now Zealand as a sergeant in tho tenth reinforcements. He t was detained in Egypt for special training, afterwards going to Sling and Aldershot, where he gained the highest marks in physical culture and bayonet examinations. After spending a short period as instructor at Sling Camp, he went to ranee, and had been on active service since June last. , LANCE-CORPORAL F. J. PRESTON. Lance-Corporal F. J. Preston, who was killed in action at Messines. was the second son of Mr. John Proston. of Nelson Street. He was born in Auckland 24 years ago, and was educated at the Nclsdn Btreet school and the Grammar School. < He was keenly interested in sport, and won many trophies. He was also a good rifle shot. He went with the Main Body, and was wounded at Ga'lipoh. Afterwards, ho saw considerable
