WAIKATO HOSPITAL BOARD.

opposition to department, [by telegraph.—own correspondent.] HAMILTON, Saturday. The Waikato Hospital Board at its last meeting received a letter from the Inspector-General of Hospitals, Dr. Valintine, suggesting that the building now being erected for an old people's home should be used entirely lor sick and wounded soldiers, and that the old people should continue to occupy the old ouild ing.

The board considered that it was imperative to remove tjie old people from the present building, which was dangerous and insanitary, and declined to adopt the suggestion, but agreed to co-operate with the Department in any scheme for providing special accommodation for returned soldiers.

The secretary reported that the Public Trustee was considering the matter of the £30,0C0 loan, but nothing definite had so fir transpired. The Minister for Public Health advised the board that the consent of the Governor-General in Council must be obtained, and the matter referred to the Minister for Finance.

In regard to the proposed cottage hospital at Huntly, Dr. Valiutine intimated that there was no intention of using it for maternity cases, but for accident and emergency cases only. It was decided to increase pensioners' allowances to 8s monthly, and to procure a new organ for the hospital.
