APPEALS FOR EXEMPTION.

BOARD AT TE KUITI. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TE KUITI. Thursday. The Second Auckland Military Service Board held a sitting at Te Kuiti to-day Graham C- Bartlev, Hangs tiki, in support of his appeal, stated that he was farming 437 acres and milking 40 cows. He had the aid of only two boys, and he worked 17 hours a day. The farm would not pay a manager. *He had worked it four years at m loss but it was now paving its way. Exemption sine die was granted. Wiiliam L. Symonds, farmer, Te Kuiti, was allowed until September 20. William E. Harsen, who had now sold his farm, was ordered to go to camp in September. The appeal of Herbert J. Lods;e, of Te Kuiti, and Vvm. J. Chestnut, of Mairoa, was adjourned tor a month pending reexamination. Jens S. Petersen farmer, Mnihiihi, who had arranged with the Trustee Board to take over his form, was ordered to report in cam" on September 20. George Pratt, labourer, 1« Kmti was granted exemption until October 18.

John Thompson, cook, Awakino, appealed on the ground that it would be a hardship for him to go to camp, because the military camps in New Zealand had only dry canteens, while he was alwavs used to using his own discretion. The appeal was dismissed. Nine appeals were withdrawn on account, of appellants being classed as unfit. In the cases adjourned sine die the board intimated to the appellants that no indication could be given at the present time as to how long that would mean. It would depend upon the need for men as to when the appeals would be reviewed.
