EAST AFRICAN CAMPAIGN.

PURSUIT OF THE ENEMY. SOME HEAVY FIGHTING. A. and N.Z. Cable. LONDON. July 23. A report from the commander of the British forces in East Africa states: The enemy evacuated Mount Shakama, in the south-eastern portion of the colony, on July 17. We pursued the main body of the enemy and occupied the ridge north of Narongombe, which we attacked on July 19. The fighting was severe, the enemy resisting stubbornly, and making frequent counter-attacks in which he sustained heavy losses. Our casualties were also considerable. The enemy evacuated Kitope, and we drove his rearguard from Madaba. The enemy retreat at Mahenge continues. One of our columns is pursuing a small German column southward through Engaruka, westward of Lake Natron.
