CAVALRY ACTION ON THE PALESTINE FRONT.
MOUNTED MEN DRIVE BACK TURKISH HORSEMEN. Australian and N.Z. Cabli Association. LONDON July 23 A report from the commander of the British forces' on the Palestine front, General Sir Edmund Allenby, states: Two enemy cavalry regiments on July 19 pushed nine miles west of Beersheba*. Our mounted men drove them back to Beersheba. We successfully raided trenches south-west of Gaza.
The Anzac Mounted Division, consisting of New Zealanders and Australians is serving on the Palestine front, but the cable does not make it clear whether they or British troops were engaged.
