OLD AGE PENSIONS.
INCREASE IN BRITAIN. A. and N.Z. Cable. LONDON. July 17. In the House of Commons to-day, Mr. Bonar Law announced that the Government is allowing old age pensioners an additional 2s 6d a week. This advance, the second during the war, means that the maximum old age pension in Britain has been doubled. The British Pension Act applies to every man or woman over the age of 70 years with 20 years' residence, whose income does not exceed £31 10s, the pension varying according to means from Is to 5s a week. An additional grant of not more than 2s 6d a week was made in September last to those proving the necessity.
