ASSISTANCE TO SOLDIERS.

CLAIMS BOARD'S ACTIVITIES. Tax Claims Board of the Auckland Provincial Patriotic and War Relief Association met yesterday afternoon at the Town Hall, Mr. J. H. Gunson presiding. Also present were: Messrs. C. J. Tunis. J. F. twen, H. D. Heather, and E. Phelan. Correspondence was received ';rom the principal Patriotic Societies in the Dominion in relation to reciprocal arrangements, and refunds were received on account of advances made to soldiers from other districts. Payments were authorised to be made to several societies against assistance they had rendered to Auckland soldiers. Communications from the Pensions Department notified that in several instances pension votes had been authorised on the renrwentation of the Claims Board. Applications for further assistance were received from 13 soldiers, and votes in each case were made according to the necessity of the applicants. In some instances where pensions were found to be insufficient for the reasonable needs of the soldiers concerned they were substantially supplemented. Assistance was granted to two soldiers who were about to leave the Dominion, and the widow of one soldier was assisted with money for her passage to her relatives in Australia. The votes of the Emergency Committee in five cases were confirmed. In another case arrangements were concluded with the Public Health Department for a soldier to be sent to Rotorua for treatment. In two cases where assistance had previously been given for a considerable time, no further action was taken.

A PHYSICIAN ADVICE ON CAUSE

AND CURE.

A famous physician whose successful researches into the cause and cure 01 I stomach and intestinal diseases have earned for him an international reputation, said in the course of a recent lecture that nearly all intestinal troubles, as well as many diseases of the vital organs, were directly traceable to a deranged condition of the stomach, which in turn was due nine times out of ten to excessive aciditv, which not only irritated and inflamed the delicate lining 0 the stomach, but also set up gastritis and stomach ulcers. It is interesting to note that he and his colleagues have secured remarkable results by the use of ordinary bisurated magnesia, which, by neutralising the acidity cf the food, removes the source of the trouble. He contends that it as foolish to treat the stomach itself as it would be for a j man who stepped on a tack to rub | liniment on the foot without first removI ing the tack. Remove the tack and the foot will heal itself—neutralise the acid I and stomach troubles will disappear. Irritating medicines and medical treatments are useless, so long as the contents of the stomach remain acid; remove the acidity, and there will be no need for medicine inflamed lining of the stomach will then heal itself. Sufferers from acidity should get a small bottl~ of bisurated magnesia from their chemist, and take half a teaspoonfnl in a quarter of a glass of hot or cold water after meals, repeating in 15 minutes, if necessary, this being the dose which the doctor has found most efficacious in all cases.— (Advt.)
