NAVAL OFFICER HONOURED
CAPT. P. H. HALL-THOMPSON
RECEIVES DISTINCTION OP C.M.G.

WELLINGTON, Friday. His Excellency the Governor has received advice that the honour of Companion of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George has been conferred upon Captain P. H. Hall-Thompson, R.N., naval adviser to the Government of Now Zealand.
Captain P. H. Hall Thompson, 0.M.G., was appointed naval adviser to the New Zealand Government in April, 1914, taking command of H.M.S. Philomel some months later. He is 43 years of age. He joined tho training ship Britannia as a naval cadet when 13 years old. Two years later he went to sea as a midshipman. In 1893 ho was promoted to sublieutenant, and in the following year was specially promoted to lieutenant, having passed his examination with five first-class certificates. In 1905 he was promoted to commander, serving at the Admiralty, as well as at sea. He received the rank of captain in 1913.
