PILFERING ON RAILWAYS.
It' is : stated that' instances of ' pilfering of fruit in transit on the railways in the Wellington Province are by no means uncommon just now. A. Wellington resident received a case of I fruit; which had been despatched .to him from Hastings. - 1 ' On examination after : arrival \ the case i bore i evidences of having been broached, arid [it was found that: approximately eight j pounds of fruit had been taken from it I Proof of this was \ furnished '. by the fact that ; the void made by/ the removal of the i ■ stolen / fruit had , been / filled lup with- a' Wellington newspaper of a' date which could not have. been in Hastings at the I time the :fruit was : packed.
