ELLERSLIE TOWN BOARD.

The last meeting of the Ellerslie Town Board was attended by Messrs. S. Somerfield, chairman, J. H. Arthur, J. Godfrey, A. Hewson, G. Thorpe, G. J. S. Watt, and Geo. Wilkinson. The chairman reported that the Minister for Railways and Sir Frederick Lang, M.P., had met the board's representatives. The particulars of the piece of land required by the board for improving the approach to the station were laid before the Minister, who had promised to carefully consider the matter. A resident in Fowlds Street attended the meeting to complain of the way in which the blasting was carried on in the quarry reserve; Several stones were produced, which he said had dropped near his house, one having broken a window. It was resolved that Mr. Thorpe should visit the quarry the following morning. Sergeant-Major Ormiston attended -the meeting, and placed before the board the wishes of the Defence Department in respect to a last exhortation to eligible men to enlist in order to avoid the ballot. It was resolved that the board give every assistance, and also signify their approval of the resolution carried at the meeting of representatives of local bodies held in Auckland on Monday. The chairman reported that a total of 135$ dozen eggs had been collected in EUerslie for the Belgian Eg? Fund. Out of the total 119$ dozen were collected by the children attending the Ellerslie school. Accounts totalling £220 were passed for payment.
