INDUSTRIAL ASSOCIATION.
AFFORESTATION DISCUSSED.
A iraETTKO of the Auckland Industrial Association was held yesterday at the Chamber of Commerce, the president, Mr. S. J. Harbntt, presiding. There were also present: Messrs. B. Buttle, J. Wilson, J. W. Wiseman, F. Chambers, F. M. Hill, A. McColl, and S. I. Clarke.
The afforestation question was discussed apropos of the City Council's investigations regarding the proposed planting of the watershed areas in the Waitakere district and of Cornwallis Park. Members were in sympathy with the latter proposal. It was decided to ask Mr. S. I. Clarke to furnish a report on the commercial aspect. This will be published, together with a reprint of a pamphlet issued some years ago by the association, and written by 'Mr. A. McColl, dealing with the whole matter of afforestation.
A leaflet 'extracted from the Journal of Agriculture on the subject of the lessons to be learned from the agricultural policy of Germany was read" to the meeting. The writer of the article, Mr. T. H. Middleton, set out certain facts, claiming that from the admirable machinery of the —administrative, educational, and commercialset up to teach, lead, and finance agriculturists, there was much to be learned.
