CORPORAL S. FRENCH.

Corporal Samuel French, who died at sea on August 7, was the oldest son -4 Mr. John French, of Te Rauamoa, Waikato. He was born at Auckland 50 year* ago, and was educated at the Te Ante Cc'lege, Hawke's Bay. After leaving school he engaged in farming with tti& father at Te Rauamoa, but at the time of his enlistment he was working in ihe Westport Harbour Board's workshops. Corporal French was a member of the Westport Football Club's senior fifteen when it won the Senior Shield at West-' port in 1915. A brother, Corporal Thomas French, was wounded in the arm sa France on September 27 last. The late soldier leaves a widow and two children. RIFLEMAN E. L. COURTNEY. Rifleman Eugene Leo Courtney, died of wounds, was 23 vears 6f age, and was the fourth son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Courtney, of Richmond Road, Ponsonby. He was born at Kuaotunu, and educated at the Auckland Grammar School, where tie ! passed the Junior Civil Service and MatriI culation examinations. Prior to enlisting i in the RiSe Brigade he was assistant Clerk Jof the Court at Napier. He was a keen ■ sport, playing football for Napier, sad cricket for the Civil Service Club. PRIVATE F. A. CAMPBELL. Private F. A. Campbell, wounded fa ! France, is the eldest son of Mrs. M. F. ■ Campbell, of Matangi. He was educated I at the Auckland Grammar School, and on j leaving school joined the staff of the Brett i Printing and Publishing Company.
