BRITISH STEAMER SUNK.

AMERICANS ON BOARD.

ANOTHER INQUIRY

A. and N.Z Cable. NEW YORK. Oct. 30.

The Marina, a steel steamer of 5204 tons, built in 1000 by Furni.-s, Withy and Co., of Hartlepool, for the Donaldson Line, Glasgow, was sunk by a submarine without warning off the Irish coast. There were 50 Americans on hoard.

The State Department hopes that the Marina will prove to be a British Government transport, in which case no remonstrances will be made to Germany.

The American Consul at Queenstown cabled the State Department that the Marina was sunk by a submarine by shell-fire on Saturday without warning. It is reported that a number of Americans ere among the crew.

Reports that Americans were on board the Marina and also the Rowanmore, sunk or, October 26, are causing an investigation as to whether Germany is adhering to her submarine pledges.
