BOY OF NINE KILLED.

WANGANTJI. Tuesday. Ax accident occurred at Waverley on Sunday afternoon, resulting in the death of a boy nine years of age named Edgar James Ball, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Ball, of Waverley. The boy and a younger brother were riding home from Sundayschool, when the pony shied at a mtoor-car standing on the side of the- road, causing the saddle to slip. The younger boy fell clear, but the elder was held by the stirrup, and dragged about two blocks. The pony then crossed on to the footpath, bringing the boy's head into contact with the kerbing. Deceased's father is on active service in France.

HOKJTIKA. Tuesday. Mr. William R. Cooke, formerly well known in business circles in Dunedin and Christchurch, was found dead in bed this morning. Deceased had been ailing for some time.
