I To-day's issue of the Auckland Weekly I News is a most attractive number. As i usual the pictorial section has many interj esting war and general photographs. A i page of views from Roumania, our latest , ally, together with the portraits of the I King and Queen of that gallant country, j which is now fighting heroically against j the enemy, form an excellent feature. The i march of N»w Zealand's nineteenth rein- | forcemeat draft over the Rimr.takaa is ; well illustrated, the selection of photo- ; graphs giving ample evidence of the fine j type of soldier New Zealand is sending to j the front. Several photographs deal with the recent arrival of the hospital ship Marama at Port Chalmers, snapshots of many of the returned wounded soldiers, ! and of the mrses who tended them during i the voyage from England, being shown. i The continued progress of the allies in j ! France is portrayed by some excellent | I photographs. Among these is a strikingl picture showing French artillery massed ! for an offensive on the Somme, while another view shows a portion of a village demolished by big guns of the British, the photograph affording irrefutable evidence of the effectiveness of our artillery. A splendid picture of South African troops, under General Smuts, is interesting, for these gallant fighters have wrested from the enemy nearly the whole of German East Africa. The portraits of many New Zealand heroes, officers, non-commissioned officers and men appear in this week's Roll of Honour. In view of the conscription referendum, a fine portrait is published of the Australian Commonwealth Pl-ime Minister, the Hon. W. M. Hughes. j Many other pictorial subjects appear, and j the number maintains the high standard . of its predecessors.
