FAREWELL TO A VICAR.
SOCIAL AT THAMES. [BY telegraph.— CORRESPONDENT.] THAMES, Monday. The farewell social to the Rev. Dr. O'Callaghan, vicar of St. George's Chinch, held in the schoolroom, was attended by\ a large and representative gathering, including ministers of other churches. The Mayor, Mr. H. Lowe, expressed the great esteem in which Dr. O'Callaghan was held, not only by his parishioners but by all who knew him. Mr. Lowe expressed regret at Dr. O'Callaghan's retirement from active work after faithful service as vicar for the past 27 years. The Mayor presented Dr. O'Callaghan with an illuminated address and a purso of sovereigns from the parishioners and to Mrs. O'Callaghan a piece of plate. Dr. O'Callaghan responded in a feeling manner, thanking the Mayor and all present for their good feeling and kindness. The Rev. J. Milne spoke- on behalf of the Ministers' Association, expressing regret at the retirement of Dr. O'Callaghan and emphasising the- brotherly feeling which had existed between him and the other ministers of the town.
A number of musical items were given by members of the choir and others.
