SAVED FROM DROWNING.

PRESENTATIONS TO RESCUERS. A* act of bravery, the rescue of a boy from drowning near Victoria Wharf, Devonport, on February 10, has recently been recognised. On the day in question the ten-year-old son of Mr. J. Vieira, of Grey Lynn, was bathing off the beach, when he got out of his depth and was carried away by a strong ebb-tide. Mr. Hugh' Brown, of the Devonport Ferrv Company's clerical staff, noticed the boy'a plight, and although almost fully dressed, ■went to his assistance and. brought him safely back to the beach. The boy's father has shown his appreciation of Mr. Brown's action by presenting him with a memento of the incident. A presentation was made on Sunday to Mr. 11. J. Coughlan, a member of the I'onsonby Boating dub, in recognition of his bravery in saving Mr. J. Verran's ten-year-old son from drowning on th-* previous Sunday. The boy was playing on the jetty at St. Mary's Bay, when he fell into the water, and as the accident was not seen, was in immediate danger of drowning. Mr. Coughlan eventually saw him struggling, and went to his rescue fully clothed, and brought him to safely in an exhausted condition. On behalf of Mr. Verran. the commodore of the Ponsonby Cruising Club, Mr. A, Braund, i presented a gold-mounted fountain pen to I Mr. Coughlan.
