WATER SUPPLY FAILS.
BAYSWATER'S TROUBLES.
TRAM SERVICE AFFECTED.
j The Takapuna tramway service was somej what disorganised last evening, and the j Pupuke's running between Auckland and I Bayswater was also affected in conse- ! quence. The trouble arose through the . failure of the water supply between , Devonport and Bayswater, with the result I that there was no water available for the [ tram engines at the tanks at th Bays- ' water ,terminus. The supply failed when ! many hundreds of people were returning I home from their work by the 5.15 p.m. ' boat. They were detained at Bayswater j for nearly half an hour. On the previous I trip from Bayswater the engine was forced !to go to the Lake with very I little water in the boiler, and some time was lost in securing a supply. Both cars and steamer were running late for the greater part of the evening. The Pupuke. which usually leaves Bayswater at 7.30 p.m., did not get away until nearly C p.m.. and consequent" passengers who were proceeding to various '•'-eatres were late in reaching the city. Most of the houses situated near the cliffs at- Bayswater were also without water, and residents were forced to carry a supply from dwellings situated on the other side of the main road. The stoppage of the supply was probably due to an obstruction sn the main.
