FARMERS AND THE WAR.
RESOLUTION IN CHRISTCHURCH. [BY TELEOKAPU.—I'RESS ASSOCIATION*.] CnaisxcnrEcn, Wednesday At to-day f meeting of the. North Canterbury Farmers' Union, the following motion vast carried unanimously: " That the Farmers I iiion is desirous of giving the «;<.vernirieiit every assistance in carrying out military and other operations as-.-•uy t<. carry the war to a successful issue; that the production of the country is already seriously hampered, and a few months' more recruiting at the present rate v ill put producers in a very serious position, ami iniist materially reduce our expolls. which are an important factor in feeding and clothing the British armies; therefore, we suggest to the Government the urgent necessity of immediately placnig the whole facts before the Imperial authorities, so that they may realise that if we continue our preterit supply of reinforcements, it must mean a material decrease in our exports of food, clothing, and material, and that the Imperial authorities be then asked which is the more important for the Dominion to —men or material."
