AUCKLAND PRICE OF COAL.
STATE MINE IN THE NORTH. SUGGESTION BY MR. POOLE. [by telegraph.—special correspondent.] Weliinutox, Wednesday. In* the course of the discussion on the Mines Estimates to-night, Mr. C. H. Poole referred to the recent report of the Board of Trade concerning the price of coal in Auckland. It was indicated, he said, that this price was unnecessarily high, especially in regard to small lots. As the cost of living v.as increasing all the time, lie. number ol people who had to buy coal in small I'.ts was increasing. He urged that a State coal mine should be opened in the North and thus secure competition with those who had formed the combination by which high prices were maintained.
