TEACHERS' APPOINTMENTS.

MANUAL AND TECHNICAL WORK.

A meeting of the Auckland Board of Education was held yesterday, those present being : Messrs. G. J. Garland, chairman, G. W. Murray, R. C. Smith, C. T. Barriball, J. D. McKenzie, A. Burns, C. E. Bank§, and A. R. Harris.

The following appointments were authorised by the board Mr. C. J. Murphy, teacher, Dome Valley school: Mr. E. E. Funke, teacher, Wairangi Farm school; Mr. R. Fletcher, teacher, Kaima-> maku school; Mrs. A. J. Kennedy, teacher, Otewa school; Miss C. Fraser, teacher, Dacre's Claim " aided" school ; Mr. L. J. S. Bush, temporary teacher, Waitekauri school; Mrs. A. K. Marsdon, assistant, to Point, Chevalier school; Miss E. Hill, assistant, Manunui school; Miss J. Johnston, assistant, Newton East school; Miss P. M. Theet, pupil-teacher, from Takapuna to Richmond West school: Miss M. T. G. Turney, pupil-teacher, from Devonport to Takapuna school; Miss G. T. Elliott, pupil-teacher, to Devonport school. Relieving Teachers. Relieving teachers were appointed as follows :Miss A. Rchutt, Waiharava school; Miss D. A. C. Evans, Okaha 1 and 2 schools : Mr. J. S. Phillips, Netherton school; Mr. S. L. Ping, Titoki and Wharekohe schools; Mr. A. R. Merrington, Mokai school; Mrs. E. A. Gall, Tautari school; Mr. R. D. Kelly,' Edendale school; Mr. E. J. Pratt, Dc-vonport school; Miss S. A. McCarroll, Warkworth school; Miss M. B. Dalton, Richmond Road school Miss A. V. Davidge, Wliangaparapara school. The Teachers Selection Committee recommended that school committees should be consulted regarding proposed appointments as follows :Ta,tarariki , (sole teacher). Miss M. C. A. Jeffs; Komata North (sole teacher), Miss E. E. Weisner; Whananaki (head teacher), Mr. C. G. Stuart; Waihi South (assistant), Miss E. de Renzy: Nelson Street, (assistant), Miss N. Gilrnore; Matiere (assistant), Miss L. Greville; Richmond Road (assistant), Miss M. L. Crellin; Manpapai (assistant), Miss M. M._McLeod; TeKuiti (assistant), Miss A. M. Cameron. The following resignations were received: Miss G. Bartle, probationer, Ponsonby; Miss L. Weetman, assistant, Ngongotaha; Miss J. Campbell, assistant, Te Kuiti; Miss M. M. Cairns, teacher. Takiri; Miss E. E. Ridling, pupil-teacher, Richmond West and Miss V. B. Sinclair, teacher, Komata North. To Relieve Overcrowding. Tenders were considered by the board for the enlargement of the Stanley Bay school, that of Mr. G. H. Miller, for £389, being accepted. The board also approved the senior inspector's recommendation that all children living on the east side of Green Lane and at present on the roll of the Remuera school be required to attend the. Meadowbank school; and that the roll number of the Remuera school be limited to 725, provided that children in Standard VI. be allowed to remain aj," the' ' Remuera school until after the examination. v Manual and Technical Branch. The director of the manual and technical branch, Mr. J. P. Kalauglier, reported that the Education Department had agreed that a subsidy of £2 for £1 would, be paid on voluntary" contributions towards the cost of erection of a manual training school at Matamatn. The science classes for' teachers at' .-resent being held at Rutland .Street have attendances; Hygiene (two classes), 69; agriculture (two "classes), 53; botanv, 19. The Whangarei High School Board' were granted the services • of Mr. W. Hudson, agricultural ; instructor, for two days each week.

The supervisor was instructed to •Visittechnical schools and manual training centres in Wellington and Canterbury, and also to get full information regarding agricultural work undertaken at'Palmerston North, Ashburton, and Timaru High Schools.

. The supervisor and Mr. J. W. Hadfie'd (instructor in agriculture)- were instructed . .v. to visit Hawera to report on agricultural instruction in the Wanganui district.
