A meeting of the Takapnna Borough Council was held last night, the Mayor, Mr. W. Blomfield, presiding. The following members were also present: Messrs. E. E. Grimwade, R. S. H. Bigg, R. S. Thompson, T. B. Arthur, M. Lisle, J. Collins, B. Cronin, and Dr. FuHerton. Opinion having been received that the by-laws as to the width of tyres, could not be. enforced against the holders of licenses granted in Auckland, but that the borough was entitled to a* share of the Auckland heavy traffic licenses, the Public Services Committee recommended

that application be made to the- Auckland City Council for a. proportion of heayv fcraific fees. The recommendation was approved. In response to a letter from the Navy League, asking- that if the council in-, tended to make a donation to the fund it should make it through the Takapuna branch, the Mayor proposed that £50 be given from the general fund, if it -were not found illegal. His proposal was adopted unanimously. Complaint was made by councillors, in letters from ratepayers, and by Mr. P. J. Dawson, as a deputation, of the, inadequate lighting of street works and of lack of access .to houses stated to obtain in connection 'with formation work proceeding in Clifton and Hauraki Roads. It was decided that the engineer and the' foreman of works be instructed to remedy the matters which were the subject of complaint-. . . * A letter was received from the Devonport Borough Council referring to the reticulation vof Clifton and Hauraki Roads, in which . that body has pipes of varying thickness for the purpose of supplying water to the neighbourhood. The communication expressed agreement to a proposal by which a 4in and a 2iti .pipe should be laid in the two roads by the Takapuna Council, to be connected to the Devonport Borough Council's Bin main. This would afford a greatly improved supply. It was stated that "the cost of the work would be about £1200, and it- was resolved that the engineer be instructed to make arrangements for the commencement of operations.
