FOOTBALL.

THE RUGBY GAME.

MEETING OF UNION.

A meeting of the Management Committee of the Auckland Rugby Union was held in the Amateur Sports Clnbroom last evening. Present: Messrs. F. J. Ohlson, chairman, G. Nicholson, M. O'Connor, J. H. Pagni, H. Frost, A. Twiname, 8. Hinton, P. Mackie, and A. Tilly, secretary. The committee decided to instruct referees to enforce Rule 40, cup rules section, which states that before the commencement of every match the names of players on each side shall be supplied to the referee by the respective captains, and it shall be the duty of the referee not to start the game until the side so offending shall forfeit the match. If neither side supply a list, the match shall be void. Messrs. F. J. Ohlson, H. Frost and A. Twiname were appointed a ground committee, and it was decided to ask the members of the Referees' Association to report from time to time in regard to - the condition of the grounds.

The application of a junior member of the Marist Brothers Old Boys Club for the removal of the balance of a term of 12 months' disqualification

imposed on him last season was not granted. The committee decided to uphold the decision of the previous executive.

The College Rifles Club wrote regretting its inability, owing to enlistments and the age restrictions, to place a team in the field this season. In consequence of the withdrawal a redraw of the first grade was made. The committee decided to invite returned sick and wounded soldiers and men on leave from camps to be its honorary guests during the football season.. It was decided to arrange representative matches for the first-grade players against the pick of the Secondary Schools Association and the Maori Colleges. Eventually it is hoped to select a composite team from the Auckland union's first grade, the secondary school team and the Maori Colleges, and play it against a team of returned soldiers and men on leave from camp. On account of the enlistment of Mr. D. Gallaher, it was decided to appoint Mr. G. Nicholson as sole selector. THE SEASON'S MATCHES.
