MINING NEWS.
OCCIDENTAL CONSOLIDATED.
RETURN OF £375,
The manager of the Occidental Consolidated mine, Thames, reports that he has treated 1301b of picked stone for a return of 140oz, valued approximately at £375. The drive on No. 2 reef at No. 6 level has shown no change during the past week. The ore is favourable in appearance, and a little gold can be seen in it. Above the No. 5 level the Occidental reef is producing some good ore, and am of picked stone were secured from the last breaking down. A crosscut has been started in the No. 2 reef at No' 5 level to test some of the leaders met in the stopes overhead, from which some good stone was obtained. The drive from the winding chamber at No. 4 level has intersected the reef and connected with the rise m the stope over No. 5 level. A break has somewhat displaced the reef at the point intersected, but some of the quartz looks favourable, a little gold being seen in it.
HAURAKI REEFS.
MORE PICKED STONE.
Stoping was continued above the No 3 level in the Hauraki Reefs mine, Ooromandel, during the past week, and the manager reports that about 81b of picked stone were saved from the general dirt. Work on the Wynyardton winze was continued, and the countrv rock and reef are now most favourable. Driving was continued on the east face on this reef, and some good gold-bearing stone was obtained.
NEW SYLVL4. The manager of the New Sylvia mine, Thames, reports that the crive on the reef at No. 5 level, north, was advanced 13ft. The reef appears to be opening out, and is now sft wide, with 'good minerals showing. In the stope north of the winze the reef is 6ft wide, and colours of gold are seen in the ore broken. One stope is going south of the winze. The reef is here 4ft wide and heavily mineralised. In the stope south of No. 2 rise the reef is 3ft wide and of fair value. Repairs have been carried out in the different levels and rises. Driving was resumed on the footwall portion of the Norfolk reef. Hard country was met with and progress was slow, Bft being driven for the week. Better country is now coming in, and the reef, which has widened slightly, shows Rood values. A contract has been let for driving the north face, crosscutting into the walls where required, and rising to Nd. 4 level.
