ANZAC DAY.

* COMMEMORATIONS ABROAD. NEW ZEALANDEHS IN EGV.?T. GREETINGS EXCHANGED. The anniversary of Anzac Day was suitably commemorated by New Zealand soldiers abroad. The Minister for Defence, the Hon. J. Allen, has received the following cablegram from the officer in command of the New Zealand Base Depot in Cairo:—"Arrangements being made for a great memorial service at the Anzac) Hostel, Soldiers' Club, early in the morning of Anzac Day. after which the graves will be decorated with flowers. There will be an appropriate military ceremonial," Mr. Allen sent tho following reply:— "Anzac Day will bo appropriately celebrated throughout New Zeaand. Will you please convey to all attending the memorial service at tho Anzac Hostel and elsewhere in Egypt our faith in the soldiers of the allied armies, cur determination to support to the full the New Zealanfors who have gone to the front, our sympathy with the relatives cf those wl are lost, and our hopes that the sick ant. wounded may soon be completely restored to health. Anzac Day will never be forgotten, bub we look forward with full confidence to the dawn of anothsr and a brighter day which shall crown with success the work begun upon that day." In answer to the Minister's message, another cablegram was received this morning from tho officer commanding the base depot at Cairo: — 'There was a large attendance of Australians and New Zealanders at a most impressive memorial service. Your inspiring message was much appreciated. All join in sympathy with the relatives of those who are lost, and in determination to do what in them lies to hasten that brighter dawn." A Press Association cablegram, received last night, stated that among those present at the service- were the Consular representatives of the allies and representative detachments, of Anzacs. The Bishop of Jerusaleum presided. Messages were also received from Mr. W. M. Hughes, Prime Minister of Australia, and "Mr. G. F. Pearce, Minister for Defence. The following cable message was sent by General A. J. Godley:—" Greetings from the Second Anzac Corps to New Zealand on Anzac Day. We honour the memory of our gallant fallen comrades." CELEBRATION AT TITIBANGI. "ANZAC BOYS" HONOURED. Ono of the first, if not the first, observances of Anzac Day was that which took place at Titirangi just after the advent of April 25, on the occasion of a complimentary social tendered to Sergeant J. J. Bishon. of the thirteenth reinforcements, on Monday evening. At five minutes after midnight Mr. H Wallace gave the toast, "The Anzac , Boys." He reminded the company that for five minutes it had been "Anzao Day." He made a fitting reference to the events of April 25 of last year. Mr. G. Williams, one of the "Anzac) boyi," suitably responded to the toast, which was enthusiastically honoured. OBSERVANCE AT THAMES. COMBINED MEMORIAL SERVICE. A combined in memoriam service was held in the Central Half on Tuesday nigjtt by the Thames Ministers' Association!. There was a large and representative gathering, including the Mayor and members of the Borough Council. The Revs. Wallace, Milne, Waterhouse, Green, Serpcll, and the captain of the local corps of the Salvation Army took part in the service. The Rev. Mr. Serwll delivered a patriotic address, describing heroism in all its forms, both military and civil. The , territorials, High School cadets, and Battalion Band were present. The "Last Post" was sounded, and the "Dead March" in "Saul" was played. The i ceremony was most impressive. ,
