■»'■■ - RESOLUTIONS OF FEDERATION. [nr telegraph.— association.] Dunedin, Wednesday. The Federated Timber-workers of New Zealand are sitting in conference here. It was resolved : That the Government be condemned for its failure to protect consumers in the Dominion from exploitation since tho commencement of the war and its failure to provide for a direct Labour representative on tho Board of Trade; that the conference protest against the recent Order-in-Council dealing with tho suspension of the under-rato workers' clause in awards, also cf tho provisions of the Arbitration Act dealing with tho same matter in connection with the employment of discharged soldiers; that the Government be urged to increase the duty on imported doors, sashes, mouldings and all manufacturing timber, Oregon timber under 12 by 12, or its equivalent; that the Workers' Compensation Act be amended to provide for the payment of full wages during tho whole period of incapacity and more liberal benefits -to injured workers. and their dependants; that the Government bo Toquested to take over full control of accident insuranco and compel employers to insure in tho State O.llce; that the Government be urged to nationalise the flour-milling industry and establish State bakeries ; that the Government he urged to extend tho planting of waste lands with trees suitable for milling purposes; that tho chief inspectors of factories in tho chief centres be given tho right to institute proceedings for breaches of awards, without first consulting the head office in Wellington ; that tho Government bo urged to procure State colliers as soon as possible; that the Government bo urged to subsidise the funds of the Workers' Educational Association; that the question of federated unions joining the Federation of Labour be left to individual unions for favourable consideration and that the conference discuss the matter at the next conference ; that the Government be requested to provide local camps, increased pay for soldiors, a more liberal scale of ponsions, greater concessions on railways, trams, otc. for soldiers, and to insure all married men with dependants while on active service.
