SUCCESSFUL RAIDS ON AERODROME NEAR OSTEND.
TWO ATTACKS MADE BY AVIATORS IK NATAL SERVICE. DUELS RESULT IN DESTRUCTION OF TWO ENEMY MACHINES AVIATOR WHO ATTACKED ZEPPELIN NOW MISSING. (Received April 26, 8.45 p.m.) London, April 26. The Admiralty announces that on Sunday morning, in spite of inclement weather, our naval aeroplanes bombed the enemy aerodrome at Mariakerke, on the coast of Belgium, four miles south of Ostend. Good results were observed. All the aeroplanes returned safely. One of our fighting machines brought down an enemy aeroplane. A further attack upon the same objective was carried out on Monday morning in co-operation with Belgian aviators. A large number of bombs was dropped. The machines encountered a heavy fire, but no British casualties were sustained. On the same day, a British seaplane .attacked an enemy seaplane five miles off Zeebrugge. The enemy pilot was killed and the observer fell out at a height of 3000 ft. The German seaplane crashed into the sea and sank. One of our pilots is reported missing. He ascended during the earlier Zeppelin raid and attacked a Zeppelin off Lowestoft.
