When Mr. Black was putting away the knives she took a gold watch. Accused then went to Mr. Silk's shop, where sho took three gold pendants. Mr. Silk went to the railway station, saw tho girl, and accused her of tho theft of the pendants. She gave up two. Nothing was known against the accused. All the stolen property had been recovered. Counsel for accused described the case as an unfortunate one. Accused was a respectable girl with a hitherto unblemished character. Sho was subject to trances, and while in such a state had announced that jewels were hidden under a bridge between Papakura and Runciman. She was so obsessed by this idea that sho stole tho jewellery ana placed it in a box under a bridge in that locality. Accused now realised the position in which she had placed herself. Counsel suggested she should convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called on. Chief-Detective McMahon said he considered the accused should be placed under some restraint for a little while. A period of informal probation was suggested. The accused was convicted, and the magistrate's further decision was held over for a week.
