SUCCESSFUL PATRIOTIC SHOW.

SUBSCEI- 0 " lONS FROM ORURU.

reticulars of ine nigiuj■.*<•«*«•'« worts of the Oruru Agricultural and Horticultural Society in aid of the turd for wounded and sick soldiers are disclosed in a letter to the Auckland Patriotic Association enclosing a cheque for £20, received yesterday from Mr. fi. J. Samuel, honorary secretary of the society. The residents of the Oruru district, which lies in the far north of the Auckland Province,- in the vicinity of Mangonui, have contributed most generously to the patriotic funds. The Agricultural and Horticultural Society organised a patriotic show which was held on March 6- and proved a Great success. On November 27 during the progress of the Queen Carnival in Auckland, when the holding of ft show was first decided on, a cheque for £150 guaranteed by tho society on tho result of the show was forwarded to the Whangarei Executive. On March 7 and 8 two further sums of £150 were paid to the Mangonui branch of the Patriotic Association. The cheque for £20 received yesterday made a total of £470, which 'has been paid into the Patriotic Fund:> for the benefit of wounded and sick soldier;;, as a result oi the show. As the amounts mentioned above were paid to aches of the Patriotic Association, the usual acknowledgment in the Herald was not made. The secretary added that another £3C will probably be paid over when the accounts in connection with the show have been made up. Ho stated further that during the first year of the war the Oruru Agricultural and Horticultural Society forwarded closa on £100 direct tc the Auckland Patriotic Fund, and the society intended to continue to contribute in the future as long as funds were needed.
