The chairman of tie Mutual Life and Citizens' Life Association stated at the annual meeting to-day that the society had fully £500,000 at stake on the lives of 2500 soldiers. He urged the need for private and public
.economy. The extravagant expenditure of public money was one of the reasons that led him 10 ask his co-directors to adopt a 3 per cent, valuation and to withdraw £100,000 from the funds to strengthen the inner reserves.
