REGULATION OF TRAFFIC.
A NOVEL DEVICE.
A xovfx device for the regulation of traffic was described by Mr. J. A. Moody at the meeting of tho Auckland Automobile Association last night. .Mr. Moody recently returned to Auckland after a trip to England and the United States, and ho said that the most effective method which he had seen of regulating traffic was a disc apparatus worked by a lever, and in charge of the police officer on point duty. Instead of raising his hand to stop traffic, the officer simply moved the lever and the word "Stop!" appeared in bold letters on the disc. The word "Go," displayed on the disc indicated that all was clear. At night, the indications were made by showing a green or a red light, as the case demanded. Such a disc instrument, explained Mr. Moody, could be worked on a tram standard. The advantage of the system was that the motorist approaching a disc cou){! not misunderstand what was wanted of him, whereas the policeman's hand signal was not always clear.
