BLIND INSTITUTE.

GOOD WORK ACCOMPLISHED.

TiiLjii, were less than 10 members presentis/ i-lie deferred annual meeting of con trihutors to the Jubilee Institute for the Blind. hel.l yesterday.

Toe chairman of tlie' board of trustees, Mr. John Reid, stated that the work done at the institute during 1915 was satisfactory. More pupils had been discharged fitted to earn a living than had been admitted. This was very satisfactory. The funds were sufficient to carry on the ordinary work, but no building operations could bo afforded. A request made by the Government that the institute should train soldiers rendered blind in tho war was acceded to with pleasure. So far no soldiers had applied for admission to the institute. An organ, presented by Mr. Henry Brett, was still at the Choral Hall while accommodation was being built for it. Mr. Brett also gave £100 for the upkeep of tho organ, and the secretary had received another £170 for the same purpose. On account of the war, there had not been as large a demand from business men for work done by tho pupils as could be desired. The school inspector's report on tho instruction given to tho children was very satisfactory. Seven pupils received Standard VI. proficiency certificates, and one was successful in gaining the highest, marks in his grade in the music examinations. In his will, the late Mr. J. C. Macky bequeathed £1000 lo the institute. This had not yet been received by the trustees. The annual report and statement of affairs will be circulated r>hort!v.

Messrs. John Reid and N. A. Nathan, the retiring trustees, were re-elected, and Mr. Reid was also re-elected chairman of the board of trustees for the ensuing year.
