SHIPPING FOR EXPORT.

FROZEN MEAT OUTPUT.

SPACE IN TWO APRIL SHIPS.

TOTAL OF 4.7,000 CARCASES.

Space for 47,000 freight carcases jf frozen meat was allotted to tho Auckland mere' Freezing Company in April steamers. Of this quantity 37,000 carcases will be taken by a steamer which is expected to commence loading to-morrow morning. The balance will bo lifted by a steamer duo at Auckland on Easter Monday.

Although operations have been greatly restricted by tho shortago of space, the directors of the company liavo been able to avoid the complete suspension, of slaughtering which was necessary last season. The difficulties of the situation have been greatly relieved throughout tho season by the Overseas Shipping Committee's systematic distribution of the available space, while tho regular advice regarding allotments has enabled the freezing operations to bo calculated with greater exactitude than would otherwise bo possible. About 3400 carcases aro being frozen daily at tho Auckland Company's two works, and it is anticipated that the loading of two steamers and tho interval of four days at Easter will permit the continuanco of this rato of killing until I the end of the month.

BUTTER HELD BACK.

BEEF AND CHEESE MUST GO.

Speaking on shipping difficulties recently tho Prime Minister said "The Imperial Government is asking us to give preference to beef and cheese, as both are required for tho troops. Tho dairy season is now coming to an end, and a very largo proportion of both butter and cheese has been shipped. Cheese must go, because it is required as i. ration for the soldiers. So far as I can see, most of the butter now in store will have to stay there for the present. In any case, a largo quantity is required for homo consumption. I will do my best to keep tho flax industry going, in accordance with the request of the deputation wliiob. waited upon me a few days ago, but I do not expect to bo able to make any definite statement on the subject for a week or two from now."
