BRITISH RESUME THE ATTACK IN MESOPOTAMIA.
ADVANCE MADE AGAINST SANNAIYAT ON SUNDAY.
ATTEMPT TO PIERCE ENEMY'S LINES NOT SUCCESSFUL
OPERATIONS GREATLY HAMPERED BY RISING FLOODS. High Commissioner's Cabled Message. London, April 10. General Sir Percy Lake reports General Gorringe's preparations for attack on the Sannaiyat position, on the Tigris, about seven miles beyond Umm-el-Henna, are well advanced, although floods have curtailed the frontage on which the attack can be delivered. The weather has improved, and the river has not risen since Friday." A later telegram from General Lake states:—"An attack on the Sannaiyat position was made at dawn yesterday, but we failed to get through the enemy's lines. "The operations were much hampered by floods, which are extending." A Constantinople communique has been issued giving a distorted version of the fighting eastward of Felahieh on Wednesday and Thursday. It claims that 1500 British were killed or wounded, while some prisoners were taken.
