Svdott, April 11. Two actions for libel brought by Mr. W. A. Hoi man. Premier of New South Wales, against the Cumberland Argus and Thomas Davis Little, claiming £2000 damages in each case, have been settled- The alleged libel consisted in the Argus referring to the political agreement not to contest byelections during war time, declaring that " Herr Holraan and his party had scrapped the piece of paper on which the patriotio truce was written." Mr. Holman's father gave evidence that his son's parentage on both sides was English. Replying to the Chief Justice's question, "Are you, or have you ever been, of German sympathy?" Mr. Holman said : "Not in the slightest." Defendant's counsel explained that the words complained of were never intended to infer that Mr. Holman was of German origin, descent, or sympathies. The cases were struck out.
