DOWAGER QUEEN'S DEATH.

Tire death has occurred of Elizabeth, Dowager Queen of Roumania. % The Dowager Queen of Roumania, whose nom de plume was Carmen Sylva, was born at Neuwied, Germany, on December 29,1843. She was a' daughter of the late Prince Hermann of Wied and the Princess Maria of Nassau.] She married Prince Carol of Roumania', the second 'son of Prince Anthony of Hohenzollern. Roumania was declared a kingdom in 1881, and on May 22 of the same year the Princess was crowned Queen. King Carol died in 1914. The Dowager Queen was a member of the Academy of Sciences, of Bucharest. She visited England in 1890. Among the books published by Carmen Svlva were " Thoughts of a Queen," 1890; "Edleen Vaughan," 1892; "Shadows on Life's Dial," 1895 and "A Real Queen's Fairy Book," 1901.
