• ■ CITY IMPROVEMENTS. NEW BUILDINGS ERECTED. (From tho HEBAID of February 19, 1866.) It argues favourably for the stability of the province that, notwithstanding a period of depression, which is the subject of general complaint, blocks of substantial brick buildings are being built in almost every direction. Some of these structures are not destitute of considerable pretensions to architecture. Only recently a | handsome block of buildings was put up i by Mr. Cameron on the north side of I Shortland Street. Mr. Herapath has nearly completed a block of houses -which ; have been built for Mr. S. Brown on the i site formerly occupied by the Q.C.E. Hotel, ! which was burned down. But a still j more imposing building has been erected j for Mr. J. Williamson, M.H.R., si the j corner of Queen and Welleslev Streets. ! The elevation of the buildings is Corinthian, with acanthus-capped pilasters, and sur- ! mounted by a very handsome balustrade.
