THEFT OF 314 SOVEREIGNS.
TAKEN FROM A CHINAMAN.
[BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS association.] Palmers-ton North, Friday. In the Supreme Court, to-day, James Fitt, aged 65, was convicted of the theft of 314 sovereigns from Hum Kee, most of which had been recovered. Accused was admitted to 18 months' probation. Counsel promised that the shortage would be repaid.
