MR. WILSON'S MESSAGE.
BRITISH PEESS COMMENT.
AMERICAN ISOLATION GONE. BRITISH NAVY HER DEFENCE. London, December 9. The Presidential message to Congress has aroused unusual interest in Britain. The Daily News says: " It is doubtful whether the Monroe Doctrine will ever be tenable again. Experience has shown that the United States can no longer rely on her political islation, founded on a geographical detachment, which has already been lost. The British Navy now stands as her only effective defence." ' The London Daily Chronicle says ' After the amazing revelations of German machinations we shall be surprised if the United States will tolerate the present conditions any longer." The London Times remarks : " The hard realities of the situation are * beginning to show that the notion is untenable that the United States can continue to live its own life and uphold.its exalted ideals without abandoning the splendid isolation it hys sc long enjoyed." The Daily Graphic comment is: "The message is grievously disappointing. Mr. Wilson utters no word of condemnation of Germany's infamous breaches of international law, of , her brutal invasion of Belgium, and of the venal manner of her fighting."
