CHARGE OF EXTRAVAGANCE
AGENT-GENERAL'S DENIAL. London, October 1.
The Agent-General for New South Wales ■ has written 'to the London Times controverting its Sydney correspondent's statement that the State Premiers " persist in continuing costly and not urgent public works with borrowed British capital." Mr. v Wise states that at the request of the the AgentsGeneral met and reported to the Premiers' Conference regarding finance. >He asserts that the requirements of the various States have been cut down to an irreducible minimum, and need" cause no anxiety. No State has any intention of entering upon public expenditure which is costly and not urgent.
