NEW BUTTER FACTORY.
OPENED AT WAIMAUKU.
The formal opening of the up-to-date butter factory erected by the Waitemata Co-operativ© Dairy Co., Ltd., at Waimauku, took place on Thursday. Settlers from various portions ot the Waitemata County were present. Mr. E. C. Beale, chairman of directors, in a speech declaring the factory opened, traced the history of the factory from its beginning as a creamery on December 1, 1904. on a site given by Mr. V. F. Kerr-Taylor, who also did most of the work in connection with the business, being both chairman and honorary secretary. There were then only seven suppliers. In September, 1908, the company, then known as the Waimauku Creamery Association, commenced to make butter, turning out seven tons, which realised lOd per lb. On May l, 1909 the present company took over the business, commencing operations in the following September, with 21 suppliers. Last season there were 74 suppliers, and the output had increased to 58 tons. This year, it was anticipated, the number of suppliers and the output would be considerably increased. The thanks of the company were tendered to the Dairy Division of the Department of Agriculture for valuable advice in connection with the erection of the new factory and the purchase of the plant. Mrs. V. Kerr-Taylor, at the invitation of the chairman, then broke a bottle of wine over the machinery, and Mr. T Henry, the manager, started * the machinery. The manager also gave a demonstration of butter-making. The formal proceedings were followed bv the dispensing of afternoon tea.
