PONSONBY CLUB'S REPORT. The annual mooting of the Ponsonby Cricket Club will bo held in the Leys Institute this evening. Tho report states that the 1914-15 season was highly successful from all points of view. At the opening of the season it was decided to enter six tea-ma in tho competitions, and with, the exception of the fourth grade B team overy team performed creditably, and fully maintained in the different grades the standard of play set in previous seasons. The fourth grade B team suffered through its ranks being continually drawn- upon, to fill vacancies in the higher - elevens. Of the four competitions .the .first and fourth' grades were won by the club, while in tho second grade the A team occupied fourth place, and tho third grade team was also fourth in its competition.

The senior team was heartily congratulated on winning the first grade championship. The' honour wag well deserved, as for the previous two years it had played consistently and been within an ace of winning, the coveted trophy on each occasion. Eight of the ten matches played were won, two two-point defeats being .inflicted by North' Shore and Grafton, while included among the wine were two three-pointers. The total number of runs scored was 2552, at a cost of 99 wickots, which worked out at an average of 25.7 per wicket, while 2157 runs were* scored against them for 143 wickets, an average of 151 per wicket. Special mention was made of the consistent form shown by F. R. Mason and F. R. Wilson with the bat, their : averages being 82.2 and 51.1 respectively.. N. Brinsden, N. C, Snedden, and R. V, %rker also finished up with good averages. The bowling honours were divided between N. G. Snedden and Vf, McMath,; the former securing 58 wickets at 11.5 runs apiece, and v the latter 81 wickets at 15.7 runs each. Sneddon, with the fine bowling average of 11.5, won for himself the distinction* of being top of tho bowling averages for the whole of Auckland. During the season fiva centuries were scored, the successful batsmen bein't N. C. Snedden (2). P. R. -Wilson, F. S. Mason, and N. Brinsden. F. R. Mason and N. C. Snedden, weN> selected to represent Auckland against Canterbury and Wellington, and R. V, Worker against Wellington. The second grade A team won four and the B team three of the eight matches waved by each team. For tho ' A's, A. E. Mills headed the balling list with an average of 29, closely followed by E. V. Rolerts. B. Pegler, and J. Drcavor. The brunt of the bowling fell to V. Plummcr, E. V. Roberts, and C. R. Edmond, their averages hem* 14.2, 146, and 15.9 respectively. In the B's. A. A Atkinson won the bos* peerage (32.8), and F. Watson took second place with 30. Atkinson also headed the bowling list.

In the, third grade -A. Honkinaon topped the batting averages with 83.1. while P. HoTJkinson proved to be the most succesKul bowler, getting 52 wickets at a coat of 9.4 runs apiece. In the fourth grade A team F. Robinson came out top of the" batting with 30.9, and G. Edlin again proved his worth by winning the bowling average with 5.6 v

The treasurer's statement shows a, credit balance on the year's working of £6 Ss lid, which, added to the amount carried forward from last year, makes the credit balance at the .present time £16 17s lid. Since the close of the season a large number of the members had enlisted in the Dpminion's Expeditionary Forces. The following is a comploto list of those serving or about to serve their country at the front; — R. Y Collins. F. R. Wilson. V. C. Kavanagh. F. Watson, C. C. Kavanagh, N. Rrippden, C. A. Sneddon, A. MoMath, H. Wright, and R. B. Shepherd. D. Comber recently returned from Samoa. With the ranks so depleted the prospects for the coming season did not appear bright, but it had to be remembered that while the Empire was engaged in Uhe stupendous struggle for liberty at present raging, cricket and kindred sports must take a secondary place. It was hoped that during the season being entered upon the Ponsonby Club would maintain its reputation, and that the day might soon dawn when the club would be able to welcome home those of their number who were away on active service.
