MAINTENANCE ORDERS. I PROPOSED AMENDMENT. [BY telegraph-— special CORRESPONDENT.) Wellington-, Wednesday. The Government has agreed to take up the Destitute Persons Amendment Bill, introduced some time ago by Mr. A. Harris (Waitemata), and there is now a probability of its becoming law this session. The Bill provides that an officer may be appointed in connection with any Magistrate's Court to receive all moneys payable under maintenance orders, and when payment* are one month or more in arrear under any maintenance otd-r it shall be his duty to sue for the amounts due as in the case of an ordinary debt. The moneys so recovered are to be devoted in the first instance to the payment of any legal expenses incurred and the balance is to go to the person on whose behalf the maintenance order is made.
ROTORUA BUILDINGS. Sir. Poole (Auckland West) has given notice to ask the Minister in charge of the Tourist and Health Resorts Department whether his attention has been called to the neglected state of the Government Buildings at Rotorua, and, if so, what steps will be taken to put the place in order in view of the coming tourist seaton '. TWO BIG BILLS. Though it cannot be said that the House is dawdling over its work, a long talk upon the Mortgages Extension Amendment Bill to-night prevented the Government from taking the second reading of the National Registration Bill, which is certain to cause a good deal of discussion. It is next on the Order Paper, so that the Taxation Bill is not likely to be introduced until Friday.
