MOUNT ROSKILL AFFAIRS.

FINANCES OF THE BOARD. The last meeting of the Mount Roskill Road Board was presided oxer by Mr. T. £ Hayr, chairman, and there ■were also piesent: Messrs. J. Peet, J. H. Hopkins, O E. Taasley, G. Winstone, and H. Luke.

Considerable discussion took place on the state of the board's finance*. The treasurer's statement showed a debit balance of £1500, a liability taken oyer when the present members took office.

The chairman said it might be well for the whole board to review the position at once, especially as the board had that night received a demand for about £250 from the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, which it was unable to pay. The income for general purposes amounts to about £2000 a year. The board decided that the clerk should prepare a statement and continue to keep a record of the amount of money expended on each road in the district. It was further agreed that all the members should meet on the Mount Albert Road this morning at eight o'clock, near the Seddon Memorial, to inspect the present operations on that road, and to decide what measures, if any, should be adopted to husband their resources.

It was agreed that the necessary steps should be taken to obtain a loan of £3000 from the Government for water extension purposes. The chairman said the money had been promised by the Advances to Settlers Board at 4£ "per cent, interest. The security would be a special rate levied on the whole of the district of one-six-teenth of a penny in the £. A poll of ratepayers would be taken to sanction v the special rate as security before the work of water extension could be proceeded with. This will take place in a few weeks' time.
